I am a 48 year old female who had a smith and nephew metal on metal hip implanted in 2007. I immediately started feeling rubbing and pain.
My surgeon said they were great and that I was suffering from depression.
I have made approx. 15 trips to the er and local doctors. I was listed as a drug seeker.
Finally last year I got a letter from UVA stating that I needed to come in for testing. My levels of metal were also off the charts and after a bone density scan, replacement surgery was scheduled with in days.
I have been seeing a psychiatrist for four years thinking something was wrong with me.
I have filed a suit for 6.4 million against them and my life is in ruin. Financially, emotionally and in so many ways…this blog isn’t long enough to explain what I’ve gone through.
What they have done to make a “buck” is criminal and destroying lives beyond repair should require jail time. My feelings of anger can’t be measured.
You work your life and to have something like this destroy it all…..there are no words for the way I feel.

I can share your pain (no pun at all intended!), and I am now unable to work as with this recent revision I have had to have comprehensive cadaver bone grafting to try to re-build my femur. I am sorry for all your pain and suffering, I know it to well. You are not alone. The problem doesn’t go away either each day there is something new. I went to 7 different doctors in 2 days last week with new complications. I get up and feel better and wack, like I got punched in the stomach. But I get up and start again. I think one of the most difficult things is fighting depression. For example the other night I couldn’t sleep, you must have a few of those nights, so I got into the reclinner and turned tv on and tears just started rolling out of my eyes and down my cheeks for no reason, (depression) I guess.
What is important is I, we heal and get our strength back. Then if you are strong enough to deal with this nightmare , because it takes the wind out of your sails, taking on the device world is like David and Goliath scares people off.
The recent vote in our USA Congress unnanimously voted in favor of H.R.No 5, ( healoth reform bill ) read the bill it is so apparent that the DEVICE world controls or calls the shots, as long as it is benificial. They point the finger of blame fortheir rising device costs, on their legal expenses. Legal expenses BULLSH-T, thats the cost of doing business. It certainly hasn’t hurt to much in their bottom lines.
Then the DEVICE world says this is how we can help people save money, if we don’t have to be held accountable for manufacturing a device such as the MOM hip,
knowing now that 10′s of thousands of innocent people are being hurt, or better yet we pay a TOKEN settlement to compensate any injured parties $500,000.
We say OK, or I should say our Government< these are the same people that are to protect and insure the quality of ours lives first and foremost, and not the DEVICE manufacturer. That is the real problem. Yes there are corrupt doctors, like any other business, however, there are many more good than not. Here is an example ofr crazy, I paid for a perscription 2 months ago $47then I entered the donut hole,same pills
$147 , today my wife Nancy went for a refill $647. I said no and returned the meds. If you can rationalize an explanation that makes sense I will listen.
My point is valid please don't point your finger in the wrong direction, unless in The USA, we the people hold the DEVICE world and the FDA accountable, another tragedy will occur. The people eliment in all this mix is some where in the mix, the print is so small I have difficulty findind the text.
