I am a 48 year old female who had a smith and nephew metal on metal hip implanted in 2007. I immediately started feeling rubbing and pain.
My surgeon said they were great and that I was suffering from depression.
I have made approx. 15 trips to the er and local doctors. I was listed as a drug seeker.
Finally last year I got a letter from UVA stating that I needed to come in for testing. My levels of metal were also off the charts and after a bone density scan, replacement surgery was scheduled with in days.
I have been seeing a psychiatrist for four years thinking something was wrong with me.
I have filed a suit for 6.4 million against them and my life is in ruin. Financially, emotionally and in so many ways…this blog isn’t long enough to explain what I’ve gone through.
What they have done to make a “buck” is criminal and destroying lives beyond repair should require jail time. My feelings of anger can’t be measured.
You work your life and to have something like this destroy it all…..there are no words for the way I feel.

Hi, Thank you for sharing your story, I am 42 years old and have just had my 3rd revision since Nov 2010 (I had a Johnson and Johnson/De Puy ASR). I can share your pain (no pun at all intended!), and I am now unable to work as with this recent revision I have had to have comprehensive cadaver bone grafting to try to re-build my femur. I wish you all the very best with both your health and lawsuit and I just wanted to let you know that many of us out here are not only here to support you and listen to you, but also to encourage you to keep on fighting for your own health and future! Good Luck and keep us informed.
Kind regards, Stuart Cain

THis is the worst, most cruel disaster, that has hit so many,
globally, IS no respector of age or gender, and I for one totally agree, there should be criminal proceedings instigated against these errantPROFESSIONALS? whose greed in
making their huge dollars, knows no limits.A prison sentence is too kind, to these vultures and perpetuators of human suffering
Wishing you every sucess, in your legal battle. Please keep us all posted, that share space on this blog. Jill.NZ

I am sorry for all your pain and suffering, I know it to well. You are not alone. The problem doesn’t go away either each day there is something new. I went to 7 different doctors in 2 days last week with new complications. I get up and feel better and wack, like I got punched in the stomach. But I get up and start again. I think one of the most difficult things is fighting depression. For example the other night I couldn’t sleep, you must have a few of those nights, so I got into the reclinner and turned tv on and tears just started rolling out of my eyes and down my cheeks for no reason, (depression) I guess.
What is important is I, we heal and get our strength back. Then if you are strong enough to deal with this nightmare , because it takes the wind out of your sails, taking on the device world is like David and Goliath scares people off.
The recent vote in our USA Congress unnanimously voted in favor of H.R.No 5, ( healoth reform bill ) read the bill it is so apparent that the DEVICE world controls or calls the shots, as long as it is benificial. They point the finger of blame fortheir rising device costs, on their legal expenses. Legal expenses BULLSH-T, thats the cost of doing business. It certainly hasn’t hurt to much in their bottom lines.
Then the DEVICE world says this is how we can help people save money, if we don’t have to be held accountable for manufacturing a device such as the MOM hip,
knowing now that 10′s of thousands of innocent people are being hurt, or better yet we pay a TOKEN settlement to compensate any injured parties $500,000.
We say OK, or I should say our Government< these are the same people that are to protect and insure the quality of ours lives first and foremost, and not the DEVICE manufacturer. That is the real problem. Yes there are corrupt doctors, like any other business, however, there are many more good than not. Here is an example ofr crazy, I paid for a perscription 2 months ago $47then I entered the donut hole, same pills
$147 , today my wife Nancy went for a refill $647. I said no and returned the meds. If you can rationalize an explanation that makes sense I will listen.
My point is valid please don't point your finger in the wrong direction, unless in The USA, we the people hold the DEVICE world and the FDA accountable, another tragedy will occur. The people eliment in all this mix is some where in the mix, the print is so small I have difficulty findind the text. Tyhis holds true all over the world, the human factor must be # ONE, not the DEVICE world.
Get your and our politicians to listen and hear our words or I fear nothing will come of this tragedy other than more such tragedys or worse if that's possible.
This is why, people must stand on their feet and" SHOUT I AM A HUMAN BEING AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE,. " and do something about it.
Respectfully
Howard Sadwin

You are a very courageous woman and your voice is being heard April 15, 2013 when you began your hunger strike at UVA. Sadly, the implanted medical device failures are systematic due to antique legislation, starved funding, conflicted decision-makers and lack of actionable information for patients. Once exploited, a patient is punished and the perpetrators/co-conspirators are unaccountable. I will do everything in my power to bring you the spotlight so that you can go home and heal.

Don’t give up! Are you Paige? I wanted to join you in your hunger strike. I’ve had 4 replacements since late 2007, and the same hell you’ve been through. Others with comments acknowledge we are all in this together. I’m beginning Congressional actions, lobbying (inspired by my newly graduated JD son) that ALL Smith and Nephew implements be recalled, and those of us who don’t have much of a life left because of S&N: we are due at the very least, financial relief for all we’re suffering.
So my first homework is to research the lives and personalities of our senators, all of whom, for me, live here in Cincinnati. I’m 60, used to be a dancer and quickly eroded many joints.
Peace, restraint (from rage), calm breeze of any negativity blown away,

Earl and all, there is some vial info that needs to be digested so you can “see and understand” where the disconnect is located. It is in the muscles. Here are a few articles to read to learn what you are up against, the what and whys. Also learn how to get yourselves off this slippery slop.
For all interested in alternate therapies, here are a couple of the few articles that have been posted. (A lot of sites have an agenda and alternatives are not welcomed) I hope the information will help you to SEE this therapy the way I SEE it. You will notice that there are naysayers out in the world who want to deny something so profound and natural. You may also notice that some say I’m arrogant, try to see that as passion about the therapy. Anyone can perform the therapy …I have a 10 yr old boy who I taught to treat his own patella tendonitis.

You can ask questions via email to help clarify you image of this therapy.
Don’t tell me off the bat that I have a big ego or misguided. This info is not for me but for you. I found it while on a journey to understand Acupuncture.
Thanks
