Hi All,
I hope that this finds you all fit and well and enjoying life!
I just wanted to quickly let you know that Bob Lugton and I (a fellow ‘hip dude’) were interviewed at my home this morning for an ABC National News story (Australia only but will be on the net!) to be aired either Wednesday 31/10/12 or Thursday 1/11/12 during the 7pm ABC National News.
The piece is in response to the recent National Joint Replacement Registry (NJRR) report around their figures for hip replacements for the last 3 years, unfortunately that was all we could talk about due to time constraints, however the ASR hip here in Australia which Bob and I received, is now ‘officially’ showing a 50% failure rate.
This has now officially earned the title of the worst Orthopaedic disaster in history according to the reporter involved.
If they get back to me and confirm a night it will be on I will let you all know, in the meantime there is a whole new slant to the story which has ‘broken’ in Europe and if you are interested I have included a few links to this story below.

I look forward to speaking with or catching up with you all soon!
Cheers,

Hi All, just a quick update for the hip brothers and sisters, the ABC news piece is scheduled to air here in Australia Friday 2/11/12 at 7pm. I am also being interviewed by Today Tonight (Channel 7 Current Affairs) tomorrow because as I was told “you are an excellent example of how this has destroyed patient’s lives!” (Thanks for that like I needed fu%^$#$@# reminding!!) However I smiled it off and we are talking on the media deck, as I have renamed my back deck in the morning! I will let you all know when this is going to be on, apparently they are ‘having a crack’ at a number of angles of this ‘issue’! I just want to let you all know I take great strength from each and everyone of your stories and experiences, especially before I front the cameras again! More power to all the followers of Earl’s great blog and I will talk to you all again soon! Respect to Earl, Bob, Brooks, Meg, Rosita and everyone else I have had the honour of meeting! Your hip brother Stu

Hi Stuart
Been thinking of you! Will tune in to the media reports…it’s good to know that you’re home recovering!
I’ve been having a new round of tests, blood, ultrasound, MRI,X-rays to check on the prosthesis ( Du Puy/Pinnacle /mom)…so far it looks OK…I still have tinnitus, problem toes and other symptoms..the medicos say they are probably age related and not because of implant…I can only hope!!
Thank you for sharing your story
All the best
Jan (Thornley)

Hello Stuart well let me begin with OMG! you have been through so much you and your family, the fact that your ‘e still smiling and have a sense of humor is inspiring .Just to read some of your blogs has strengthened my conviction to seek further advise on my own case. My name is Barbara and i have had two surgerys so far, my first performed by none other than Mr Oakshott he doesent deserve any title as he conveniently retired when the s… hit the fan but not before I was able to have one last consult with him , just after my 2nd surgery was done (thankfully not by him) MY experience was that within months of my first hip replacement being performed i was worse off than before the surgery, Oakshotts insistance was, that the prosthetic was not the problem and insisted that it was my back , after extensive tests and many consults I decided to seek another opinion from another ortho elsewhere, not Sportsmed! and to my releif after veiwing some x rays he idintified immediately the failed hip from the same x rays that Oakshott had access to .Then within weeks the second surgery was performed . So far so good that was two years ago.But I still feel very angry at how the lack of acknowledgement at the time for the fact that my hip had indeed failed, I am glad i got to vent my disapproval and point the finger at one of the very people substancially responsible for my plight . I am sure there are many victims who did not get the same opportunity to vent.I have recently been approached by the acting insurance co for DePuy with an offer of compensation that is what I regard to be piddly /paultry and thanks to you I will now carefully reconsider my future thank you and I hope life for you is far more pain free cheers from Barbara
