I’ve just had my third revision for a ligament removal due to scar tissue. A week later I experienced extreme nerve? Pain in my thigh followed by a major dislocation. I am now recovering well but have been told that dislocation will always be a danger from now on. I had high chromium/ cobalt levels, pseudo tumours, bone loss from my MOM originally implanted in 2003. There are so many of us whose lives have been changed by these implants and justice must occur. These companies knew that they were putting our lives in danger for the sake of profits!

I find at times I must get away from this hip matter and move on in life. However with each new day new and existing health issues continue, so it seems there is no starting over. The will to get up from a simple chair is becoming more and more difficult even exercising. If I don’t keep trying I would be dead in a year, so I feel. Rest doesn’t exist in my vocabulary, until justice and accountability takes place and these device manufacturers are placed under real rules: to include jail time for those individuals directly responsible for the manufacturing and sale of any implant that has hurt so many. Fine a manufacturer 1 Billion dollars plus jail time. This is how you get rid of corruption. These settlements in most cases are an embarrassment. To ask someone to take pennies for what was lost in life plus not know what new health issues will happen tomorrow as a result of such devices is a slap on the wrist and a traffic ticket. Soon I will be telling the whole story. No reporters have ever published the real story from a patients perspective as well as manufacturers and this is to include our Government, yes they ok’d the sale of MOM hips to patients KNoWING there was insufficient long term results. Even the publications from the 70’s – 80’s warned patients not to use or be aware MOM is problematic. Where are all the studies and research that was to be provided by these manufacturers regarding MOM hips. They don’t seem to exist or the manufacturer uses cherry picked patients 18-21 year old patients not middle- older patients. Patients need to speak their stories, then look at the manufacturers read their business code of ethics then read the few sentences regarding the well being and safety the manufacturer speaks about for patient. I recently read Smith & Nephew pulled a small head 42 on the BHR off the market and their comment to investors not to worry that this would only represent .01% loss in revenue. I didn’t see how many injured or impaired patients this represented. Look at company policies and gather black and white words they have printed, spoken advertised etc then you have some of the necessary tools to use to substantiate allocations. All for now be well be strong and let more patients know they are not alone.

Stuart, I am so sorry for what you have been through. We all pray that the ultimate possibility WILL NOT be necessary. I too have De Puy hips. They are the ceramic on poly variety. Although the surgeries have been somewhat helpful (I can walk on a cane instead of a walker) the result has been far less helpful than promised. I’ve been crying out to no avail that the CoP hips have problems of their own. Two years out and I am still in pain. I lack mobility. I have occasional partial dislocation on my left side. And I suffer from ossification. The doctors answer to my complaints: acupuncture. I fear that, in the near future, my complications will become even more severe. No one is listening to me!
