A faulty hip replacement has left Jean Redman in intense pain for three years. But Hawke’s Bay Hospital refuses to put her on a waiting list to fix it.
ACC acknowledges her injury was caused by faulty surgery, and Hawke’s Bay District Health Board accepts she would benefit from surgery – but it says she does not meet its threshold to be on a waiting list.
Meanwhile, her pain remains intense. She had a steroid injection in her spine on Monday, takes 16mg of slow-acting morphine twice a day, and 10mg of fast-release morphine three to four times a day.
Yet another ACC victim, when do they acknowledge and compensate accordingly””’. If my own case history-‘On this Blog’ is anything to go by, and after 9 half years of attempts to get ‘The most appropriate’ and effective ‘Treatment programmes’ granted then retracted, OR the dirty word of “ADEQUATE compensation to ‘put in place to enable on going treatment, that has been known to be effective, predominately paid for by my self with ocassional assistance for treatment from, friends/family, in the desperate attempt to retain the healthy and active lifestyle, that enabled me to have a ‘productive lifestyle’ and be of assistance in
voluntary and Community work, even though officially retired.
My sympathies and understanding to Jean, with the ONLY advice I can offer. Don’t give up.-keep the focus going, which is treatment or compensation to exist more comfortably, whilst maintaining your own self disciplne and daily exercise, with physio backing, and understanding. .
Without my daily Morphine, I doubt I could cope as well as I do, although ‘not good enough’ say their ‘Assesors’ Team leaders, Case Managers
. ACC for medical Misadventure, is but a ‘farce’ in the country of my birth, that I was once so proud to be born a New Zealander.in a’ once fair’ and honest country. where justice and Medical profession were once
an honourable affair.Best wishes to be ‘pain free’ and in seeking Treatment.
