Cardiologist William Maisel Arrested In Prostitution Sting Operation
Cardiologist William Maisel, the deputy director for science at the FDA Center of Devices and Radiological Health, was arrested on prostitution charges after being caught in an undercover sting operation in North Laurel, Maryland. Maisel was one of 10 men arrested on July 13.
The Savage-Guilford Patch reported that Maisel ”approached a plain-clothed female police officer and offered money for sex.” He is scheduled to appear in Howard County District Court on Sept. 20.
According to Pharmalot, the news ”was greeted with a mixture of shock and sadness inside the FDA, which is treating the incident as a personal matter, according to an FDA spokeswoman. The arrest, she tells us, ‘has nothing to do with the work he is doing here.’” Maisel did not respond to a request for comment from Pharmalot.
Prior to joining the FDA Maisel had been the director of the Medical Device Safety Institute at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. Maisel was a vocal advocate for better safety measures and FDA reform in the wake of the recall of the Sprint Fidelis ICD lead recall.

Maisel needs to resign from his position with the FDA. This Dr. expects me to have confidence in his talks with the device manufacturers to see if indeed there is a problem with metal on metal hips, I don’t think so Dr. Maisel.
I addressed the FDA panel you chaired this June 27-28th, 2012 in Washington, D.C.
and it was apparent to me, no decisions would be made to remove these dangerous devices from being used on innocent folks.
For the panel to recommend collecting more data or more investigations was absolute B.S. all the data and information has been produced. The mere fact the sales of metal on metal devices has dropped dramatically and the staggering number of revision surgeries occurring on patients with metal on metal hips, including hip resurfacing devices, such as Smith and Nephew’s Birmingham hip resurfacing device, and more revisions to come, the adverse reports filed by patients with metal on metal hip implants and resurfacing
in the past few years is overwhelming should be enough of a red flag to remove these devices from the market place. What are you waiting for, the OK from the device manufacturer to shelve these devices ????
If Dr. Maisel used this same course of action ( NOTHING NOTABLE or WORTH WILD ) when choosing a prostitute, he would be sleeping alone.
There have been several people higher up the political ladder than Maisel caught in similar situations and they have resigned, more than likely been asked to resign,
why aren’t you following suit. I would hate to think this has anything to do with the existing CORRUPTION in the Government and the Medical Device World.
